Signing

Brinley has been picking up quite a bit of this and that lately. She has been taking baby tip-toe steps if I hold under her arms and move her forward. He therapist told us that most kids with Cerebral Palsy (her official condition is "Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy", but it falls under the HUGE umbrella of CP) only bunny hop. This means that they use both legs at the same time. They don't use their legs independently of each other. So, this is a huge step.
She has an appointment with the doctor this Friday to see about getting her Botox treatments. Yep, you read that right. She is probably going to get Botox before her mommy! LOL What they do is inject the muscles in her legs with Botox to deaden them for 3-6 months. Then we can do some major stretching without hurting her. Plus, it will help her to develop the weaker muscles that she isn't using as much. So when the stuff wears off, then she will have stronger legs that will help her with standing and walking. We'll keep you posted on how it goes.
Brinley has also started to pick up some signs. She now currently signs: food, more, mommy and daddy. They are not all the time, they are just sparatic. But she is starting to understand a tiny bit on communicating. This is a very good thing since the little stinker still won't even try to make any sounds. So, here is to continuing to grow more and more! :)
Love ya, little miss!

I am so glad she is starting to sign, it helps so much in being able to communicate, Bradley signed when he was little and it was a huge help when we had Kennadee such a short time later. Good Luck with her Botox and stretching, hope everthing goes well for her and you!!!!!

When we lived in CA i worked as an Infant Development teacher and many times got to work with CP kids. I saw Botox work really well with them. Good luck!!!

Georgia is scheduled to have Botox in March so you'll have to let me know how it goes. Right now we are doing stretches with her to loosen her muscles so hopefully she won't have to do Botox. I'm a little hesitant to inject a foreign substance into my baby girl but if it will help I'm willing to do anything.
